There are many ministries within the church where you
can use your time and talents. Why not get involved?

Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others,
faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.
1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)

Joining a ministry team is a great way to grow in friendships, knowledge, and in your spiritual journey. Has any ministry touched your life in a meaningful way? Now is your chance to make a difference in someone else's life. Not only will you build relationships, and enjoy the satisfaction of a job worth doing, but more importantly, you will glorify God.

Church Board: The board is selected from members of GECC. The congregation votes for board members at the annual meeting in January. Board members serve one year and meet monthly. The board is the governing body of the church. If you enjoy leadership, finance, record keeping or governing a body of believers, there is a place for you.

Nominating Committee: This committee meets a few months prior to the annual congregational meeting to help select a slate of candidates to be voted on by members of the church to fill vacating board positions.

Pastoral Care: These volunteers are members of the congregation who pray for, encourage and assist the pastor. They bring comments, questions and suggestions to the pastor to assist him in his ministry.

Admin Assistance: Do you have clerical skills that can assist the church with their administrative tasks? Proof-reading, copying, collating, sorting, and mailing, just to name a few.

Newsletter Editor/Staff: Can you help get information out via a quarterly newsletter? We need information on upcoming events, articles written, as well as editing, copying and collating to distribute to the congregation.

Welcome Committee: Do you enjoy meeting new people and making them feel welcome? As simple as a friendly face, a warm handshake or phone call can make our first time guests feel at home.

Encouragement Cards: Do you enjoy telling people how special they are? Just fill out a post card with some encouraging words. The church will mail these out.

Hospital or Home Visitation: This team visits members who are in the hospital or home-bound. They extend the love and comfort of the church to those too ill to attend, as well as pray for and encourage them.

Prayer Team: These warriors know the power of prayer. They receive a weekly prayer request list and vow to pray for each need and keep them confidential. There is also a prayer phone chain for emergency prayers.

Children's Worship Teachers: So you enjoy working with children. Our young people need adults who can lead, teach and encourage them in their walk with God. It's church on their level: interactive and fun!

Sunday School Superintendent: This person coordinates all the teachers, leaders and curriculum for the children's worship school year.

Toddler Room: Even the youngest can understand how to worship God. Do you enjoy working with little people? Singing, crafts, snacks and interactive play make worship time fly by.

Child Care and Nursery: Caring for babies while parents worship is a great ministry.

Youth-Teen Group Leaders: So you connect with youth and teens? You understand how to bring relevant topics to their level? Our young adults need role models that understand their stage in life and can show them how to have a relationship with Jesus Christ today. A fun and rewarding time.

VBS Coordinator and Helpers: For one week in the summer, Vacation Bible School can change the life of a child. Music, crafts, and fun celebrate what God has planned for them.

Christmas Program: The biggest outreach program of the year! So many members of the church are needed to give out the message of Jesus' birth. Whether acting, stage managing, lighting or sound; there's a place for you.

Women's Ministry: Do you enjoy leading, mentoring, teaching, or sharing with women? Whether it's books, crafts, cooking, bible study or listening, there's a need for your talents. Women need women who care about their needs. See a deaconess to get involved. Deaconesses are an elected group of women who gather monthly to pray for, encourage and plan events that will inspire women to become devoted followers of Christ.

Men's Ministry: What do guys need? The most challenging program in the church is ministering to men. Whether through sports, challenge courses, men's events or small group bible studies - men need the support of strong Christian men. The Elders of the church meet often to pray for, encourage and plan events that will inspire men to become godly leaders in their homes and places of influence.

Adult Teaching/Mentoring: Do you enjoy listening? Do you have the gift of teaching? There are many opportunities to assist adults, both young and old, in their walk with God.

Small Group Leaders: These care groups consist of 10 - 15 regular attendees. Small groups are where the most real life changes in the church take place. Leaders help guide others through Bible study, and prayer time every week. Leaders-in-training can apprentice in any group.

Deacons: An important group in the church that is responsible for overseeing the finances of the church as well as the upkeep of all facilities and building maintenance.

Landscaping-Gardening: Maybe you have a green thumb and enjoy creating beautiful works of art with flowers, shrubs and other plants? Please dig in!

Grounds Keeping: Some people enjoy working outdoors to keep our church looking neat and clean. Mowing the lawn, raking leaves and painting buildings glorify God.

Building Maintenance: We are always in need of handy workers. Whether fixing the furnace or the fans or changing lights, the buildings need constant care.

Cleaning Team: This group makes cleaning fun every Saturday morning.

Hospitality: Do you enjoy serving others? Whether for a meeting or a pot luck function, workers are needed to set up, monitor needs and clean up.

Kitchen Care: Ever think about who makes sure the kitchen in clean and well stocked for any event? Someone washes those towels and buys the paper plates, empties the dishwasher and takes out the trash.

Coffee and Cookies: The most popular spot to gather after church requires someone who got the coffee percolating early and put out the cookies.

Flowers: Do you enjoy putting together flower arrangements? A beautiful accent of color often brightens the day of many.

Decorations: Whether for a special event or a holiday, the church needs helpers who enjoy putting up and taking down decorations. Bulletin boards can inform and inspire too.

Worship Team: One of the most visible teams in the church. Do you play an instrument or sing on key? Approach any member of the team to set up an audition.

Special Music: Are you being led to share a special song or piece of music? Let the worship team know.

Tech Support: Sound boards and microphones, balance and clarity assist the worship team and speakers during service. If electronics are your thing, this is the ministry for you.

Graphic Support: Another behind the scenes ministry that can use your artistic talent and software knowledge. Help find the picture perfect background to slip behind the words of a song and keep the flow of service on track.

Clothing Bank: These volunteers sort and display clothing donated by the community, as well as laundering clothing when necessary. This ministry gives back to those in the community that have needs for new to gently used clothing and household items, towels, bedding and blankets, especially during the winter months.

Food Bank: We partner with the Thrift Food Bank (Community CARE Ministries) to gather, sort and distribute food items to those less fortunate in our community. For more information call Community CARE Ministries at (360) 893-8194.

Care Net Volunteers: This free service offers pregnancy counseling, ultra sounds and check ups to pregnant women. Volunteers assist women through the most blessed event of their lives by encouraging them throughout their pregnancies. See their web site at http://www.care-net.org/.

Missions: Teens and adults within the congregation can go on mission trips. Whether short-term or long-term missions, this group also prays for and encourages support for those God has called to go into the world to spread the Good News.

Missionary Support: We support many families that are full-time missionaries around the world. This team prays for and gathers monetary support for these families.

Summer Camp: We are fortunate to have Cascades Camp nearby in Yelm. This team helps raise funds to offset the camp fees so young people can participate in at least one week of camp during the summer to help strengthen their walk with Christ. See the camp web site at http://www.cascadescamp.org/.

Wedding Coordinator: This volunteer assists couples that are wanting to use our facilities for their marriage ceremony. From decorations, to music, to reception plans, the coordinator is an integral part of the ceremony.

North Pacific Conference: GECC is a member of this conference. As such, we need to keep in touch with and follow the guidelines set up by our church leadership. See their web site at http://www.covchurch-npc.org/.

Love, INC: Love (In the Name of Christ) INC is a non-profit organization in Pierce County that brings together all the resources of all the churches in the area to help the needy among us.
