I was entrusted with the lead pastor role of Graham Covenant Church in May 2019. It is an incredible privilege and honor to be in this position of shepherding this loving community of followers of Christ.
I was a nominal Christian growing up. I did not learn the life changing truth of the gospel until after I graduated from the University of Alaska in 2000. It was then that I heard that my sins were transferred onto Jesus and his righteousness was transferred to me. When I heard that I was justified by faith alone, by grace alone, in Christ alone, I was transfixed with a heavenly joy. I decided to get baptized, take every class my church offered, read the Bible with intentionality and learn all I could about my gracious Redeemer. Slowly but surely the things of this world began to fade away compared to the surpassing glory of knowing Jesus better and deeper.
Soon I was volunteering as a chair stacker after worship services, then as an usher, then as a leader in the singles ministry, which ultimately led to teaching in small and large groups.
Eventually another Christ-follower named Becky came along at my church whom I had a lot in common with and we began to date – ultimately getting married in 2008. She was a Multnomah Bible College alumnus, and loved serving Christ as much as I did. She is an incredible woman who embodies the Proverbs 31 ideal. We have been incredibly blessed to adopt two amazing children who also each love the Lord Jesus.
I was also blessed to be the owner of a successful real estate data business for 11 years, but my heart was always drawn to ministry. After achieving what many would describe as the American dream (self-employed, debt-free, highly profitable, with dedicated employees doing the bulk of the work) I found myself dissatisfied. I spent all my time at the office watching sermons online and reading theology textbooks. I approached my pastor and told him I need to be challenged. He responded by asking me if I had considered preaching. I was surprised by his suggestion but endeavored to give it my best effort.
Soon I was preaching quarterly. Then I entered Multnomah Biblical Seminary to take classes online. I loved every class, every book, every insight into God. After completing 33 credits, I conferred with my wife that God was calling me out of business, out of our beloved home in Alaska, and into ministry full-time. First I sold my business to one of my employees and then I accepted the associate pastor position at Clear Water Church. After completing my one year contract we moved to Portland to complete my Master of Divinity degree, which I was awarded in April 2019.
My focus at Graham Covenant Church is to preach the word of God faithfully and to lead through relationship development. I am excited to help this team of dedicated staff and volunteers serve Christ together for the betterment of our community and the glory of God.
We welcome you to join us as we follow Him.
Soli Deo Gloria!
